Linguistic consultancy

is a writing consultancy. i help you write in various genres: final degree projects, academic articles, articles for magazines, abstracts, guides, booklets, letters, invitations to celebrations, posts to social media, etc.  

how does it work?

we arrange one or more meetings to talk, either online or in-person¹. you explain in detail the context of text production, i organize a plan with this information to think about and draft topics for the elaboration of the text. it is a process that can be done from scratch or from a previously written text to be better prepared.

Proofreading

is a textual analysis based on a ready text. i do not write the text as in linguistic consultancy! in the proofreading process, linguistic adjustments and suggestions to improve the meaning of the text are made.

i work with four types of proofreading:

1. oral at first sight

in one or more meetings, online or in-person, i read the text aloud directed to basic grammatical adjustments and more in-depth questions of syntactics and semantics, but who makes the changes in the document is you.

2. without copy desk²

i do readings directed to basic grammatical adjustments and deeper questions of syntactics and semantics, with a terminological survey. finally, i have a general reading of the text ready. in this type of work, i make the necessary adjustments and suggest syntactic changes only based on the text of the document, without making any additions on my part.

² copy desk is a mode of proofreading in which the proofreader participates more in the textual modifications, such as punctuating writing suggestions, changing place sentences, deleting others, etc. 

3. with copy desk

i do readings directed to basic grammatical adjustments and deeper questions of syntactics and semantics, with a terminological survey, comments, suggestions, and proposals for rewriting, as well as subtitles identifying the changes. finally, i have a general reading of the text ready. 

4. proofreading of translated texts

i do comparative readings between the original material and the translated material.

Translation

from French, Spanish, or English to Portuguese and vice versa.

i do textual translation, simultaneous³, consecutive⁴, and oral at first sight⁵. 

i don’t do sworn translations.

³ online or in-person, with or without proximity to the person, in which the translation takes place shortly after the person’s speech.

⁴ necessarily in-person and very close to the person to be translated, in which the translation happens right after the person’s speech.

⁵ in one or more meetings, online or in-person, i translate the text aloud at the time of reading and may or may not have support materials.
  the person can make notes.

Textual formatting

to the standards of the Brazilian Association of Technical Standards (ABNT) and the standards of journals, colleges, and other institutions.

images, tables, graphs, acronyms, cataloging, bibliographic references, etc.

Critical reading

i read the text sensitively, considering historical and political perspectives based on plurality, diversity, and dissident and countercolonial intersubjectivities. then write an opinion on the content and point out in the text what is considered inappropriate. i have more technical proximity to some themes, but, although i do not know the main theme of your text, it is possible to do a reading focused on the historical context to think about the choices of words.

Audio transcription

in Portuguese, French, Spanish, and English.

any type of audiovisual material, with transcription in conformity with the desired context.

the price varies according to:

1. the number of speakers for the material;

2. the positioning of the recorder or camera, and

3. the noise pollution.

Subtitling of audiovisual material

in Portuguese, French, Spanish, and English.

any kind of audiovisual material.

Typing

in Portuguese, French, Spanish, and English.

the value varies according to:

1. the handwriting of writing;

2. the conservation status of the work and

3. the possibility of finding search resources to answer questions regarding the material.

Summary and abstract of works and books

i write the abstract based on methodology, references, singularity of textual construction, and keywords.

Review of works and books

in Portuguese, French, Spanish, and English.

for ethical reasons, i do not write reviews for academic works, only for authors, publishers, and bookstores. for individuals, i can provide linguistic consulting to assist in writing.
